Chewing Sensor Development

The development of a new non-invasive, wearable chewing sensor is under progress at CSEM. One of the first approaches is to test a bone conduction microphone placed at the ear. The electronic engineers are evaluating the sensor in a specially made experimental setup that allows simultaneous EMG (Electromuelography) signal recording. EMG is currently the golden standard for chewing detection. All the devices have a link to PC where the signals are acquired and processed. So far results are promising. It has been possible to distinguish chewing while eating certain foods. However more experiments have been planned to ensure that the method will work on a variety of foods and in real-life conditions.
